Do electronics with a cord you plug into an outlet need to be charged or need batteries?

Like a cordless phone, or massager, something like that.

Usually, no...although some items need to be plugged in to charge their batteries. My digital camera (for example) requires me to plug it in to charge the battery or I can remove the battery and place it in a corded battery charger.

Items you mention (cordless phone cradle, electric massager) only work when plugged into an electric outlet and therefore require no batteries or "charging" as they don't operate when not plugged in. Some massagers operate on batteries and don't have to be plugged in or recharged. You simply replace the batteries with new ones when they become used up and stop working.

The handset for your cordless phone DOES have a rechargable battery though, and it needs to be in the cradle (which is plugged in) for it to charge. If you leave it out of the cradle too long or talk on it for too long, the battery will run down and require re-charging before it can be used again.
