Decomposition makes dead bodies into fertilizer for plants. The raw materials are recycled over and over again. There is a carbon cycle, a nitrogen cycle, a phosphorous cycle, a water cycle, and so on. Our bodies are made from the same molecules that formed the living beings of the past.

I've heard that if it weren't for the fungi that decompose dead leaves and trees, they would just pile up and the soil would be no good for growing new ones.
