Giving them lots of tummy time helps a lot. My son started crawling at 7 months, but every child is different. I got my son a roll around drum and a tummy time mat to encourage him. Also ball toys are good for them to chase. Try putting objects in front of them just out of their reach that helps also.

All babies are different so there is no one age. As the previous writer says, lots of tummy-time is great.
Some babies push up on their hands and wriggle backwards first. There are so many different styles. Have fun playing with your baby and observing the different stages it will take him/her to start crawling.
